Routines of Successful Business Owners with Pru Corrigan

We asked Pru her thoughts about working from home, including having that all important morning routine to start the day on a positive note.

Many businesses from small to large have had to completely change the way they operate because of working from home during Covid-19.

Pru Corrigan, the co-founder of unique Australian drink spritzes brand Batch & Co as well as PR, talent and digital agency One Daydream is running her businesses from home.

We asked Pru her thoughts about working from home, including having that all important morning routine to start the day on a positive note.

Tell us about your working routine during Covid-19, has it changed much?

Regrading Batch & Co, things began to ramp up. Stockists were looking for more options on their shelves as Covid-19 hit and more people drank at home. Our brand is all about 'we prep and you play', and of course home is the perfect place to do this. We have a small team and again everyone worked remotely. We had one person in the warehouse that could continue sending out orders, but no reps were on the road. It's been a really interesting time for the brand because we actually grew and had the time to investigate overseas opportunities.

How important is it to get going early in the morning when you are working from home, just like any normal workday?

It's an interesting conversation, in New York City they start work around 10am or 11am but work late. I think you need to work to what suits you in lockdown or not.  My phone starts at 7am most days and I'm sorting school lunch and drop offs, so early starts are a must for me. My teams like starting early as well, some start at 7.30am.  I can self motivate, I think that's the key and I'm a great delegator. I've learnt that after 20 years in the game.  But in lockdown having a normal routine for everyone definitely helped my business, and planning also ensured we saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

What are some of the things you would recommend to successfully work from home?

I think having a desk set up is key. Having a quiet space with no distractions helps you achieve results. Also think about your day and plan it – write a list and tick it off. Set up calls with people that you can’t change and commit to meetings. Working from home can be distracting, but with a plan you can actually achieve a lot because there is no one talking to you or distracting you and you can get all those home chores done and dusted. I am starting to implement a four-day week in the office with some of the staff.  I trust them and they know what they need to achieve. At the end of the day, I feel you can work from anywhere if you get the job done!
