This story was written by several Buy Aussie Now team members.
Today we’ll be chatting with Laura Allan the mastermind behind Isaac’s Snacks. This Aussie business helps busy parents keep their kids healthy with a range of locally sourced, wholefood treats. It can be hard to find snacks that are healthy and taste great to kids - Isaac’s Snacks began as a way to change this.
Tell us a little about Isaac's Snacks?
Isaac’s Snacks is all about creating easy choices for parents with nutritious and delicious on the go food for our little ones.
Australian made toddler snacks with locally sourced, whole food ingredients in a resealable pouch so no more mini plastic bags! Our range has just five to eight whole, natural ingredients and nothing else.
How did you start your homegrown business?
I just got started, I have been working in the FMCG corporate world for 15 years and one day I decided I want to produce a range of products that is a better choice for people’s health.
What inspires you?
The foods we are putting into our little one's bodies is a huge part of this and in our crazy busy lives can be difficult to get right. I created Isaac’s Snacks out of my own frustration at toddler snacks out there. Hidden sugar, additives, unknown ingredients and products made by big companies who manufacture abroad.
Isaac’s Snacks is a better choice. A choice to do good in this world, through not only the product but through sustainable manufacturing, packaging and giving back to our community.
What are the benefits of manufacturing locally?
Strong connections with your suppliers – they are bought into building this business with me, and there is complete transparency over the supply chain.
What makes the Australian consumer unique?
They understand the importance of health and wellness and will always seek out the best products to support their health. They want value, not discount, and they love the connection with brands and their story.
What is the best business advice you have ever received?
I saw Brene Brown speak last year and she was just awe-inspiring, my favourite quote of hers is:
“I want to be in the arena. I want to be brave with my life. And when we make a choice to dare greatly, we sign up to get our asses kicked. We can choose courage, or we can choose comfort, but we can’t have both. Not at the same time.”
What are some of the biggest challenges you have had to overcome in business?
Still overcoming them every day but the biggest challenge is the juggle – having a full-time job, 3-year-old and my own business!
Favourite Australian film quote?
Love Rachel Griffiths in Muriel’s Wedding:
"Stick your drink up your arse Tania; I would rather swallow razor blades than drink with you. Oh, by the way, I’m not alone. I’m with Muriel."
Do you keep your vegemite in the fridge or pantry?
Pantry for sure!
