Is your best fur-friend a little stylish? Molly Barker can help.
Today we speak to Angela Infantino, Founder and Director of Molly Barker, to understand why she has made it her personal mission to ensure that the dogs of Australia feel pampered and look chic with a range of grooming and styling products made of natural and organic ingredients.
Tell us a little about your business?
Molly Barker is the premium destination for stylish dogs and dog lovers. Our products are designed to enhance the functionality, comfort and style of every dog while coordinating with your own fashion trends and home décor. Our range of products includes all the necessities, like collars, toys, beds and decadent grooming products made from natural and organic ingredients.
We are also a business focused on giving back and caring for the environment. Being Australian made was important to us. We want to support local businesses and charities wherever possible; we use local artisans to manufacture our products and a portion of our profits is donated to Assistance Dogs Australia.
A lot of thought also went into our packaging. Our orders are presented in beautiful biodegradable bags and recyclable boxes that look amazing so you’ll want to reuse them.
How did you start your homegrown business?
When I got my dog, Molly, I was frustrated that I couldn’t find any nice accessories. I didn’t want her things to dominate my style or home décor. Everything on the market was overly cute, cheesy or was designed purely out of necessity with little thought given to the functionality of the user.
So I set off on a journey to create a collection of innovative, high quality, and beautiful products that dog owners would love just as much as their dogs did.
What inspires you?
My inspiration for new products comes from fashion, architecture, lifestyle and culture. I want to create pieces that are both functional and beautiful. Dogs aren’t just pets anymore; they’re part of our families and bring us so much joy. I want our pieces to reflect the bond we share and be an extension of how we live.
This drives me to push my design creativity and challenge our manufacturers to adopt innovative techniques to produce the highest standard of functionality, quality and aesthetics.
What are the benefits of manufacturing locally?
Being able to have a closer relationship with our manufacturers and suppliers means communication is better, which produces a better result. We have more control over the quality of our products, and it minimises errors. But when things do go wrong (and they do), we’re able to fix them quickly because we can speak directly to the person making them.
What is the best business advice you have ever received?
Don’t be afraid of failure. It shows you how to do things better next time. Just be sure to fail fast.
Favourite Australian film quote?
“Tell him he’s dreaming” – The Castle.
Which classic Aussie song would you perform at karaoke?
I wouldn’t inflict my tone-deaf vocals on anyone. But I’ve definitely belted out “You’re The Voice” on more than one occasion at the end of a night out.
